No claim is made that this thickness-measurement service detects weld flaws. Weld-flaw examination is a separate NDT discipline and may require different equipment, procedures and qualified personnel.

The accessible surface is assessed and prepared where necessary, couplant is applied, and a suitable probe is placed at each agreed location. The gauge is configured for the material and probe, readings are checked for a stable response, then recorded against the inspection plan for reporting.
Yes, stainless steel and other ultrasonically conductive materials may be measurable when a suitable probe, sound velocity and calibration are used. Feasibility and measurement range depend on the specific material, geometry, surface condition and required result.
There is no reliable universal number. The measurement density depends on asset geometry, nominal thickness, likely corrosion mechanism, previous findings and the survey objective. A selected-point check answers a different question from a defined grid or detailed corrosion map.
The Cygnus 1 Ex manufacturer specification states ±0.1 mm or 0.1% of the measured thickness, whichever is greater. Field confidence also depends on calibration, probe, material, geometry, temperature, coating, surface condition and echo quality.
There is no single minimum for every setup. The Cygnus 1 Ex family specification covers approximately 0.8–250 mm in steel depending on the selected probe and configuration. Britteco's quoted S5A-Ex and T5B-Ex probes have their own narrower ranges, so the applicable range is confirmed against the job scope.
