Britteco has its northern base at Fellbeck near Harrogate, so tank inspection, cleaning and replacement in Ripon, Skipton, Northallerton and across the Dales are local jobs for us. We look after farm, estate and industrial tanks across the county, out to Selby and the coast.
Away from the towns, much of North Yorkshire sits off the gas grid. In 2021 the Census counted 11.9% of households heating with oil alone, about four times the England average, and the same lanes are lined with farms, estates, holiday parks and village businesses running kerosene boilers and red diesel tanks. Many of those tanks have stood through decades of Dales winters.
Food and farming lead the rural economy, with significant agricultural land and McCain’s frozen potato operation on the coast. Selby has Drax, the UK’s largest biomass power station, and the county hosts defence sites from Catterick Garrison and RAF Leeming to RAF Menwith Hill near Harrogate and RAF Fylingdales on the moors.
Tourism matters too. More than 40 million visits a year support hotels, caravan parks and attractions, many of them off-grid and dependent on a working oil supply through the busy months.
One of our published case studies comes from Harrogate, where our northern team is based.

Run out of heating oil or diesel in North Yorkshire?
24/7 emergency heating oil, kerosene and diesel delivery from 100 litres, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
North Yorkshire is in the Environment Agency’s Yorkshire area, where the Swale, Ure, Nidd, Wharfe and Derwent drain the Dales and moors towards the Ouse. Groundwater matters here as well: the EA monitors the Magnesian Limestone and the Sherwood Sandstone at Great Ouseburn, and both can be harmed by a slow leak from a buried or weeping tank.
Flooding can last for weeks. The Derwent at Malton and Norton is slow to rise but slow to fall once groundwater is up, and in winter 2023 to 2024 it ran high four times over nearly three months. Tanks in low yards or by the river need a sound bund, secure fill points and anchoring.
Businesses storing more than 201 litres must follow the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001, including 110% secondary containment. After any removal or decommissioning we provide waste transfer or consignment notes and a certificate of disposal or degassing certificate.
From Harrogate and Ripon to Selby and Scarborough, we look after farm, estate and industrial tanks in all of these towns.
Yes. Tank inspection is one of the services Yorkshire customers ask us for most, and our Harrogate engineers carry it out across the county. We check the tank, bund, pipework and gauges, and can add an ultrasonic thickness test on steel tanks.
Our northern base is at Springhill Farm, Fellbeck, near Harrogate (HG3 5EX), in Nidderdale. Engineers work from there across the county, from Ripon and Skipton to Scarborough and Whitby.
Farm fuel storage has its own regulations, but the principles are the same: a sound tank, a bund to contain leaks, protected fittings and distance from watercourses. We can inspect your tanks and replace anything that falls short with a bunded unit.
Check whether the tank has moved, whether its fill and vent points went underwater, and whether there is a sheen on the floodwater. We can pump out water that has got into the tank, clean it and inspect it before it goes back into use.
We send heating oil or diesel round the clock, weekends included, in 100, 200 or 500 litre loads, so a holiday park, farm or plant site can keep running until its normal supplier arrives.
Our Harrogate engineers also cover the neighbouring areas.
Our Fellbeck team inspects, cleans, replaces and removes tanks on farms, estates and industrial sites. Send the details and we will arrange the visit.
