Britteco replaces worn heating oil and red diesel tanks, takes old ones away and cleans bulk fuel stores for farms, food plants and rural businesses across Lincolnshire, from Boston and Spalding to Louth and Lincoln. Crews travel from our Banbury base with the lifting gear and tankers to swap a tank in one visit.
Lincolnshire leans on oil more than most of England. Nearly 12% of households in the county heat with oil alone, and in East Lindsey, which covers the Wolds and the coast from Mablethorpe to Skegness, it is 19.3%. Farmhouses, village halls, churches, caravan parks and small workshops all run kerosene boilers, and many of their tanks went in decades ago as single-skin plastic or painted steel.
The farming and food economy adds its own fuel. Greater Lincolnshire grows around 30% of the nation’s vegetables and 18% of its poultry, and the south of the county holds a dense cluster of processors, packers and cold stores around Boston, Spalding, Sleaford and Grantham. Grain dryers, irrigation pumps, tractors, reefer trailers and standby generators all need red diesel or gas oil kept on site in volume.
The county also hosts large RAF stations such as Coningsby, near Boston, where generator and ground equipment fuel has to stay clean. Across all these sites the common jobs are the same: swapping out tanks that have reached the end of their life, clearing water and sludge, and disposing of the old units properly.
Most of our Lincolnshire work is replacement, so this is how a typical change-over runs.
Replacement and removal lead here, followed by fuel care for farms and food sites.
Run out of heating oil or diesel in Lincolnshire?
24/7 emergency heating oil, kerosene and diesel delivery from 100 litres, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Lincolnshire is handled by the Environment Agency’s Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire area. Much of the coast and fen sits close to sea level behind man-made banks. The 1953 storm tide pushed inland as far as Alford, the December 2013 surge flooded more than 800 homes in Boston before the Boston Barrier was built, and in June 2019 a breach on the River Steeping flooded 137 properties at Wainfleet. A tank on this ground should sit on a raised, firm base inside a sound bund.
In the south of the county the Lincolnshire Limestone is a fractured aquifer used for public water supply. Oil lost through a split tank base can travel through it, so leaks around Grantham, Bourne and Stamford need dealing with quickly.
Firms holding over 201 litres must follow the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001, including a 110% bund and protected fittings; GPP2 covers siting. Every replacement, removal or clean comes with waste notes and a certificate of disposal or degassing certificate.
We cover the whole county, from the Wolds to the Fens; these are frequent stops.
Stop filling it and, if you can, move the remaining fuel into drums or a bowser. Call us and we pump it out, clean up the base and replace the tank with a bunded one. A leak from the bottom of a steel tank normally means corrosion inside, so patching it is rarely a lasting fix.
The price depends on the size and type of new tank, how far it has to be moved, and how much fuel and sludge is in the old one. Send us photos and your annual usage and we give a fixed quote covering removal of the old tank.
Plastic tanks are cut down and recycled where possible, and steel tanks go to a metal recycler once cleaned and de-gassed. You get a certificate of disposal showing it was dealt with legally, which matters if you sell the farm or house.
Condensation forms inside as temperatures swing, and rain gets past worn lids, vents and gauges. Water settles at the bottom, rusts steel tanks and feeds diesel bug. We drain it off, clean the tank and fix the entry point.
Yes, alongside our commercial work we fit replacement heating oil tanks for Lincolnshire homes. Our page on replacing a household oil tank explains what happens on the day.
These neighbouring areas are covered by the same teams.
Tell us the tank size, what it holds and where it stands. We send a fixed quote and a date to swap it, with the old tank taken away the same day.
