Britteco replaces, removes and cleans commercial oil and fuel tanks across Norfolk, from farm yards near Swaffham and Fakenham to industrial sites in Norwich, King’s Lynn and Great Yarmouth. We are based in Banbury and plan each Norfolk visit so the work is finished in one trip.
Norfolk leans on stored oil more than any other county in the East of England. In 2021, 17.3% of households heated with oil alone, and in King’s Lynn & West Norfolk the figure reached 25.1%. North Norfolk, South Norfolk and Breckland were all close behind, while Norwich itself was just 0.2%. Out in the villages, on the estates and across the farms, a kerosene or gas oil tank is part of everyday life.
Farming here runs at scale. The county grows more potatoes than any other in the UK, and the British Sugar factory at Wissington takes in sugar beet from a wide area. Cold stores, packhouses and agri-logistics yards around King’s Lynn and Thetford run fork-lifts, boilers and refrigeration plant on stored fuel.
On the coast, Great Yarmouth’s port supplies the offshore oil, gas and renewables sectors, and the Bacton Gas Terminal sits further north. Add hospitals such as the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with their standby generators, and the county ends up with a wide mix of tanks, from 1,200-litre plastic units to large steel bulk tanks.
Norfolk farm work runs around harvest and the beet campaign, so we settle the details before the crew sets off.

Run out of heating oil or diesel in Norfolk?
24/7 emergency heating oil, kerosene and diesel delivery from 100 litres, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Norfolk sits within the Environment Agency’s East Anglia area. The Broads cover roughly 303 km² of rivers, lakes and marsh fed by the Bure, Yare, Waveney, Wensum, Ant and Thurne, and much of the surrounding land is low and drained. Oil that escapes from a tank near one of these rivers can travel a long way before anyone notices.
Commercial sites holding more than 201 litres of oil must meet the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001. The key test is a bund of at least 110% of tank capacity, kept clean and free of rainwater, with fill points and sight gauges inside it. Many older single-skin tanks on Norfolk farms fall short, and replacement is often the simplest fix.
Security now belongs in the same conversation. Local press have reported a sharp rise in fuel theft across the county, from red diesel taken off farms to heating oil drained from tanks, including cases around Fakenham and Hickling in 2026. A bunded tank with lockable fittings, sited where it can be seen, meets the regulations and makes a theft much harder. After any tampering, we can inspect the tank and fittings before you refill.
These are the towns we reach most often, along with the villages and farms between them.
Our own engineers, travelling from the Banbury HQ, carry out every Norfolk installation. They handle the whole replacement: draining the old tank, removing it, preparing for the new bunded tank and transferring usable fuel across.
Report it to the police first, then have the tank and fittings checked before refilling, as forced valves and damaged pipework can leak. If the tank is old or single-skin, a replacement with lockable fittings may be the better long-term option.
Cleaning sorts out sludge and water but cannot fix thin or corroded walls. We can inspect the tank and, for larger steel units, run an ultrasonic thickness test, then advise whether it has years left or needs replacing.
Usually, yes. Where a tank cannot be lifted out whole, we cold cut it into sections after it has been cleaned and de-gassed, so no heat or sparks are involved.
Our focus is commercial work, but we can also replace or install home heating oil tanks in Norfolk. The domestic oil tank page lists the certificates you receive.
We work across the county borders too.
Send us a few photos and the tank size, and we will come back with a clear plan and a date that suits your farm or site.
