Britteco cleans diesel and oil tanks, empties flooded bunds and removes redundant fuel stores for factories, depots and estates in Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton and the Black Country. We are based in Banbury, and our crews bring the tanker, pumps and cold-cutting equipment needed to finish each job on the day.
Hardly anyone here heats a home with oil. The 2021 Census counted 1,350 oil-only households among more than 1.13 million in the seven boroughs, about half of them in Solihull. So almost every tank we see belongs to a business: generator day tanks, sprinkler pump fuel, fleet diesel, gas oil for boilers and waste oil in workshops.
Manufacturing still sets the pattern. Jaguar has built cars at Castle Bromwich since 1977 in the old Spitfire works, and Land Rover has been made at Solihull since 1948. Chain is still forged around Cradley Heath, and the i54 park on the Wolverhampton edge hosts a Jaguar Land Rover engine plant. Birmingham Airport at Bickenhill handled over 13.6 million passengers in 2025 and relies on standby power.
Older sites bring their own problems. A works that has changed hands several times can hide an underground tank under a yard, or a steel tank inside a brick bund full of rainwater, oily silt and leaves. A bund full of water has no room left to catch a spill, so cleaning it is often as urgent as cleaning the tank.
City sites need careful planning, so every job follows the same four stages.
Listed with the most requested work in the conurbation first.
Run out of heating oil or diesel in the West Midlands?
24/7 emergency heating oil, kerosene and diesel delivery from 100 litres, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
The county falls under the Environment Agency’s West Midlands area and drains mainly to the River Tame through Walsall, Sandwell and north Birmingham. The Tame has flooded Witton and Perry Barr several times, including 2007 when about 400 properties at Brookvale Road were hit, and in 2023 the Agency finished a £50 million scheme with a flood storage reservoir at Forge Mill. Under the city, groundwater in the sandstone aquifer lies within 5 metres of the surface across a wide area, a real concern if a buried tank leaks.
Above 201 litres, business oil storage must meet the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001: a bund or double skin holding 110% of the tank’s capacity, with fill points, valves and gauges protected. A bund half full of rainwater no longer gives that 110%, so it needs pumping out and the oily water disposing of properly. GPP2 guidance adds keeping tanks clear of drains and canals.
After every job we hand over consignment or waste transfer notes and the matching cleaning, degassing or disposal certificate, so auditors and landlords can see the tank and bund were handled correctly.
We work in all seven boroughs, including these places.
Yes, and it is one of the jobs we are asked for most here. We pump out rainwater and oily water, remove silt, wash the bund and check it for cracks. You get a consignment note for the oily water and a note of its condition.
Our crews travel from Banbury to sites across the conurbation, including Wolverhampton, Coventry, Dudley and Walsall. We clean bulk diesel, gas oil and kerosene tanks and generator day tanks, and can polish the fuel rather than dump it.
Quite often. Diesel left standing for months picks up condensation, and diesel bug then clogs filters just when the generator is needed. We test the fuel, take off water and sludge, then polish or replace it.
If the ground can be opened safely and the tank lifted, removal leaves a clean site for redevelopment. Where it runs under a building, wall or busy yard, we empty it, clean and de-gas it, then fill it with foam and issue a certificate.
Tank capacity, how much sludge and water is inside, whether it needs entering, and the access. A full bund adds time. Send photos and the capacity and we will price it before booking.
The surrounding counties are served by the same crews.
Send us the site postcode, tank size and a couple of photos of the tank and bund. We will propose a method and a slot that keeps your site running.
