Britteco provides tank cleaning, removal and inspection in Cheltenham, Cirencester and across the Cotswolds, with engineers travelling from our Banbury base. We work on estates, quarries in the Forest of Dean and dockside businesses in Gloucester.
The Cotswold side of the county is estate country. Large houses, farm buildings, holiday lets and equestrian yards often share one or two big heating oil tanks, plus gas oil for machinery. Some of those tanks have been in place for decades and sit in outbuildings or behind walls, which makes replacement a planned job.
West of the Severn, the Forest of Dean has working quarries that run plant, crushers and generators on diesel. Gloucester and Sharpness docks are still working commercial waterfronts, and RAF Fairford adds defence activity in the south-east of the county. Each brings bulk fuel storage that needs cleaning, testing and eventual removal.
Oil is the only heating fuel for 6.8% of Gloucestershire households, according to the 2021 Census. When a tank is leaking or a filter keeps blocking, we can clean it, polish the fuel or fit a new bunded tank, and 24/7 heating oil and diesel deliveries cover a site that runs dry.
Estates, quarries and docks each need their own plan, so we settle the details before the day.
Listed by how often Gloucestershire sites need them.
Run out of heating oil or diesel in Gloucestershire?
24/7 emergency heating oil, kerosene and diesel delivery from 100 litres, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Gloucestershire straddles two Environment Agency areas: West Midlands for the Severn catchment and Thames for the Cotswold rivers in the south-east. The 2007 floods hit Tewkesbury hard, a reminder of how far the Severn can spread. Oil tanks in low-lying parts of the county need bunds and fittings that can cope with rising water.
The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 apply to any business storing more than 201 litres. Tanks must sit within secondary containment holding at least 110% of their contents, and that includes estate heating tanks serving holiday lets or offices. GPP2 guidance covers safe siting and fill point protection.
Once a job is done, we hand over the records: Waste Transfer or Consignment Notes for any fuel and sludge, and a Certificate of Disposal or degassing certificate for the tank.
From the Cotswolds to the Forest of Dean.
Most jobs are priced from photos and a description, with a survey for awkward tanks. We then book a date and bring everything needed to finish in one visit. If a tank runs dry in the meantime, our 24/7 emergency service delivers heating oil or diesel from 100 litres.
Yes. We drain the old tank, cold cut it into sections if it will not fit through the door, and install a new bunded tank in a suitable position.
It often is. Water and diesel bug in stored diesel cause blocked filters and poor running. We can test the fuel, clean the tank and polish what is worth keeping.
Make sure the tank is bunded to at least 110%, anchored securely and that vents and fill points are above likely flood levels. We can inspect the tank and recommend changes.
Commercial sites are our main focus, but we can help Gloucestershire homeowners with domestic tank replacement and installation. Our domestic heating oil tank page covers bunds, siting rules and certificates.
We also work in the counties that border Gloucestershire.
Send us photos and details of the tank, and we will arrange a survey or quote and a date that suits the site.
