Britteco removes, inspects and cleans commercial oil tanks across Wiltshire, from logistics sites around Swindon to farms on the chalk downs near Devizes, Marlborough and Salisbury. We also decommission redundant tanks and deliver emergency diesel or heating oil.
Wiltshire relies on oil more than most of England. At the 2021 Census, 13.0% of households heated with oil alone, and the farms across the chalk downs depend on gas oil for arable and dairy work. Tanks on these holdings are often large, exposed to the weather and sited on open ground above the aquifer.
The Salisbury Plain Training Area includes garrisons at Larkhill, Bulford, Tidworth and Warminster. Boscombe Down and Porton Down add more defence and research sites to the south. Sites like these hold fuel for vehicles, generators and heating, and tanks are replaced or decommissioned as buildings change use.
In the north, the M4 corridor around Swindon is lined with warehouses and distribution centres. They run standby generators and fleet refuelling tanks, where clean diesel and sound containment matter.
Farms, depots and defence sites each have their own access rules, so we plan every visit to suit.
Ordered by local demand across the county.
Run out of heating oil or diesel in Wiltshire?
24/7 emergency heating oil, kerosene and diesel delivery from 100 litres, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Most of Wiltshire falls within the Environment Agency’s Wessex area, with the north-east of the county under Thames. The chalk that forms the downs and Salisbury Plain holds a major aquifer, and oil spilled on chalk soaks downward fast. A weeping tank on a downland farm can affect groundwater that supplies far more than the farm itself.
Any business storing more than 201 litres of oil must follow the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001, which require a bund or secondary containment holding at least 110% of the tank. Farm fuel tanks, generator day tanks, IBCs and bowsers are all included. GPP2 guidance covers siting and protection against overfilling.
We leave you with the paperwork. Waste Transfer or Consignment Notes cover fuel and sludge, and a Certificate of Disposal or degassing certificate covers the tank once it is removed or made safe.

Yes, provided security clearance and access are arranged in advance. Send us the site’s requirements early and we will supply names, vehicle details and method statements.
Chalk lets oil soak quickly into the groundwater below. Tanks on the downs need sound bunds and fittings, and a regular inspection is the best way to catch problems early.
An ultrasonic thickness test measures how much steel is left in the walls and base. Together with a visual inspection, it shows whether the tank can stay in service, needs repair or should be replaced.
Diesel kept for standby use can collect water and diesel bug over time. We can test it, clean the day tank and polish the fuel so the generator starts when needed.
Engineers travel from our Banbury base on a booked date. Photos and tank details usually let us plan the work beforehand, so everything needed arrives on the one visit. For a farm or depot that has run out of fuel, our 24/7 emergency diesel and heating oil delivery covers urgent cases.
We also cover the counties around Wiltshire.
Send us the tank details and site location, and we will book a visit that suits your farm, depot or base.
