The brief

Two tanks.
One cleaning scope.

Diesel tank cleaning in Northampton involved two commercial storage tanks, each with a capacity of 17,500 litres. The agreed scope was to drain the tanks and their pipework, clean them and leave the storage arrangement clean and empty.

The filler pipes also needed attention. The access brief described their run from the front of the property as approximately 50 metres, so the work covered the connected system as well as the tanks.

The specified scope included decommissioning documentation relating to the tanks and pipework. This case study describes the recorded cleaning work and fuel handling.

The work

Fuel, tanks and filler pipes.

01

Remove remaining diesel

Remaining diesel was uplifted before the tank cleaning work. The fuel removal record notes 16,000 litres, distinct from the combined 35,000-litre storage capacity of the two tanks.

02

Clean both tanks

The scope covered the two tanks individually. The access brief identified large inspection hatches at the top and specified the equipment and protective measures for entry-based work.

03

Include the pipework

The filler lines were part of the agreed scope. The end requirement was for both tanks and their associated pipework to be left clean and empty.

Access & planning

More than
tank capacity.

The vehicle access brief allowed parking beside the tanks and specified approximately 20 metres of hose. A large truck and a separate flatbed vehicle were listed for the work.

The longer filler pipe run was a separate part of the system. Identifying it before the visit helped define what needed to be emptied and cleaned.

For another commercial diesel tank cleaning enquiry, provide photographs of the tank, inspection openings, pipe connections and vehicle route. Tank entry, fuel handling and any operational restrictions require planning for the actual installation.

The recorded outcome

Fuel uplifted.
Cleaning work completed.

The project record confirms completion of the job and a fuel removal volume of 16,000 litres. The work brought together the remaining diesel, both tanks and the connected filler pipework in one cleaning scope.

A capacity figure alone would not have described this job. Access through the top inspection hatches, vehicle positioning and the pipe run all formed part of the brief.

Fuel removal needs to be planned with the cleaning work. The record for this job notes 16,000 litres uplifted. For another site, the amount, condition and intended handling of the fuel must be established before agreeing the work.

How much does commercial diesel tank cleaning cost?

Capacity, contents, condition, access, entry requirements, pipework and fuel or waste handling affect the quotation. Send site information and photographs for a price covering the actual scope.

What photographs should I send?

Include the complete tank, inspection openings, outlet and filler connections, nearby pipework and the vehicle access route. Tell us whether the storage system is in use and what restrictions apply to the work.
