Britteco removes and replaces oil tanks and cleans fuel storage for businesses in Crawley, Chichester, Horsham and Shoreham-by-Sea. Crews come from our Banbury base, and West Sussex work is booked in advance.
The north of the county is shaped by Gatwick Airport. Manor Royal Business District in Crawley hosts more than 600 businesses, from logistics and engineering to offices with standby generators. Diesel storage there tends to be bulk tanks for vehicles and plant, or generator tanks that must be kept clean and ready.
On the coastal plain around Chichester and Arun, glasshouse horticulture uses fuel for heating and machinery across large sites. Shoreham Port handles aggregates, timber and oil, and the yards around it keep diesel and generate waste oil. These are working sites where a tank swap has to fit around deliveries and shifts.
Inland, farms on the South Downs and in the Weald still lean on oil. In Chichester district 10.2% of homes heat with oil alone, against 3.7% county-wide, and farms around Midhurst and across the downland run red diesel and kerosene from tanks of all ages.
Each stage is confirmed with you before we set off from Banbury.
Ordered by what West Sussex sites ask for most.
Run out of heating oil or diesel in West Sussex?
24/7 emergency heating oil, kerosene and diesel delivery from 100 litres, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
West Sussex falls in the Environment Agency’s Solent and South Downs area. The Arun, the Western Rother and the Lod drain the county, and two aquifers sit beneath it: the West Sussex Chalk under the Downs and the Western Rother Greensand to the north. Both carry spilled oil down to groundwater easily.
On flat coastal land around Chichester and Bognor Regis, watercourses and field drains run close to many sites. A leaking tank there can reach a ditch quickly, so the 110% bund required under the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 is a practical safeguard, not paperwork. The rules apply to businesses storing over 201 litres, and GPP2 guidance covers siting and spill response.
As an OFTEC registered firm holding ISO 9001:2015 and CHAS, we close every removal, replacement or clean with a Waste Transfer or Consignment Note and a degassing certificate or Certificate of Disposal.
From the Gatwick area down to the coastal plain.
In most cases. We agree a slot, keep vehicles clear of loading bays and plan the work so deliveries continue. Generator tanks can be cleaned with temporary fuel in place.
Stop filling it, contain what you can with spill kits or sand, and keep oil out of drains. Then call us so we can pump it out, assess the tank and plan a replacement.
Not always. A tank that is too large holds fuel for longer, which gives water and diesel bug more time to build up. We size the replacement around how much you actually use.
A straightforward swap is normally done in a day once we are on site. Larger steel tanks or tight access can stretch it, and we tell you that when we plan the job.
Yes. Downland farms often have older tanks on chalk, so we check the bund and condition carefully and recommend removal or replacement where the risk to groundwater is high.
