Britteco handles oil tank removal, oil tank replacement and fuel tank cleaning for farms, ports and industrial sites in Maidstone, Ashford, Canterbury and Dover. Kent jobs are planned from our Banbury base, and a farm tank can usually be removed and replaced on the same visit.
Roughly 62% of Kent’s land is farmed, from fruit and hops to vineyards and arable fields. Those farms run tractors and sprayers on red diesel and keep kerosene for farm buildings and cottages. Many of the tanks are steel or early single-skin plastic, and replacing them with bunded units is one of the most common Kent requests we get. The Thanet Earth glasshouses add horticulture to the mix.
Kent is also an energy and freight county. The Port of Dover, Sheerness and Thamesport handle heavy traffic, with haulage yards and workshops nearby. The Isle of Grain hosts the Grain LNG terminal, power stations and the former BP refinery site, while Dungeness sits on the southern coast. Industrial clients here need tanks cleaned, decommissioned or removed when plant is replaced or land changes hands.
Oil heating matters more in rural districts than the county figure of 3.6% suggests. In Ashford borough 9.3% of homes rely on oil, and the Weald, the North Downs villages and Romney Marsh all have off-gas businesses running heating oil.
Removal and replacement depend on good information, so we confirm the details before the van leaves.
Removal and replacement lead the list in Kent.
Run out of heating oil or diesel in Kent?
24/7 emergency heating oil, kerosene and diesel delivery from 100 litres, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Kent lies in the Environment Agency’s Kent, South London and East Sussex area. The Medway, Stour, Darent, Teise and Dour all run through the county, and much of its drinking water comes from the chalk of Thanet and Dover and the Lower Greensand. Oil leaking into either rock can reach groundwater, which is why a split or weeping tank needs dealing with quickly.
Flooding is a second concern. On Romney Marsh around 14,000 homes would be at flood risk without defences. Floodwater can lift or tip a poorly anchored tank and carry oil over a wide area, so siting, anchoring and bunds matter more here than in most places.
Businesses storing over 201 litres of oil must meet the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001, including a 110% bund, with GPP2 guidance on siting away from drains and watercourses. We are OFTEC registered, ISO 9001:2015 certified and CHAS accredited, and every job comes with the waste paperwork and disposal certificate.
From Medway industry to Romney Marsh farms, we work across the whole county.
Usually, yes. We drain the old tank, transfer usable fuel, take the old tank away and fit the new bunded one, so the farm is not left without fuel for long.
It does. Tanks in flood-prone areas should be well anchored and bunded, and sited above likely flood levels where possible. We can look at your setup and suggest changes when we replace or inspect the tank.
It is cleaned, de-gassed and cut up, then taken to a licensed site for recycling or disposal. You get a Certificate of Disposal and a Waste Transfer Note as proof.
Yes. We pump out the contents, clean and de-gas the tank, and then either excavate it or fill it with foam or concrete. The choice depends on what the land will be used for next.
We focus on business sites, but we can also handle a domestic oil tank replacement in Kent. See our home oil tank replacement page.
Neighbouring areas with their own pages.
Send a photo of the tank and tell us where it sits. We will confirm the removal or replacement plan and a date for your Kent site.
